Zadeck Family Foundation Establishes New Endowment

Published March 9, 2018

The Zadeck Family Foundation has made a generous donation of $150,000 to establish an endowed fund benefiting the new Center for Brain Health at LSU Health Shreveport. The donation will be used to establish an endowed fund known as the “Zadeck Family Foundation Endowment for Neuroscience Research.”

“Uniting our three professional schools, the Center for Brain Health is the only neuroscience research facility in the state that offers the comprehensive clinical aspects in treating patients. The goal of the CBH is to provide the best medical care and neurological rehabilitation to restore patients back to the maximum level of function possible after brain injury or disease. I am confident the research supported by these funds will do just that,” stated M. Suzanne Tinsley PhD, PT, NCS, Parks Endowed Professor of Neurological Rehabilitation.

The endowment’s purpose will be to make intramural grant funding available for researchers associated with the Center for Brain Health, with the intent to support CBH researchers in their efforts to secure long-term sources of research funding. Both basic science researchers and clinical science researchers will be supported through the endowment.

The Center for Brain Health offers a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to treating brain disorders and expands neuroscience research at LSUHS, bringing together both clinicians and researchers. It is the only neuroscience research facility in the state that offers the comprehensive clinical aspects in treating patients with faculty and staff from all the Schools of Medicine, Allied Health Professions, and Graduate Studies all working together.

“My family is blessed to be in a position to make contributions that will strengthen the healthcare and research available in our community. I do so because my family and I are deeply grateful that we can access world-class healthcare right here where we live. I’ve known for many years that LSU Health is a tremendous asset to our community and I want to do my part to see that it remains strong. I encourage others to support this important institution,” shared Donald J. Zadeck.

LSU Health Shreveport Chancellor G. E. Ghali expressed his personal appreciation to the Zadeck Family for their continued and generous support of LSU Health Shreveport.

Donald Zadeck, along with his wife Frances and children Julie and Kenneth have been long-time supporters of LSU Health Shreveport. Prior to today’s gift, the family has donated in excess of $300,000 to include funding of the Donald J. Zadeck Jr. Memorial Garden at Feist-Weiller Cancer Center (FWCC) which provides a beautiful and calming retreat for cancer patients, their families as well as staff of the FWCC. A 2017 gift provided enhanced technology and medical equipment for the purpose of improving the patient experience at the St. Jude clinic at FWCC. Julie Zadeck co-chaired the 2017 Life Savers Gala which raises research funding for FWCC. Unrestricted gifts to fund the most critical needs at LSU Health Shreveport have occurred annually since 1997 when Donald J. Zadeck became the inaugural chairman of the LSU Health Shreveport Foundation. Mr. Zadeck served as board chairman for over a decade where he led the charge to obtain property that would give the institution the opportunity to expand. During his tenure, over 15 parcels of property totaling 25 acres were acquired. The LSU Health Shreveport Foundation named Mr. Zadeck Chairman Emeritus in 2008 and honored him as a Community Hero in 2017.
