Research Expansion Project
Expanding Capacity Amidst Unprecedented Growth
LSU Health Shreveport (LSUHS) launched the Research Expansion Project (REP) to support rapid growth in funded research, strengthen its national standing, and advance discovery in key areas, including cardiovascular disease and cancer. The project addresses an urgent and immediate need for modern research laboratory space to sustain the strongest research recruitment momentum in LSUHS history.
Case for support
LSUHS has reached a critical tipping point where our research ambitions have outpaced our physical footprint. By transforming the former Sears at Mall St. Vincent into 181,000 square feet of adaptive lab space, we can eliminate our greatest barrier to growth and ensure that life-saving innovation never has to wait for room to breathe.
Strategic Goals
- Support LSU’s goal to become a Top 50 Research Institution
- Recruit 40 new funded researchers within five years (goal set in 2024)
- Attain R2 status as a university campus
- Expand and modernize research infrastructure to support continued growth
- Build upon existing excellence in cardiovascular and cancer research
