Give Back & Get Involved

Thank You, Medical Alumni of LSU Health Shreveport!

We are so proud of you. You went to medical school to change lives, and you do every day. You inspire the next generation of physicians. You are a positive force in the community. You help us preserve our institution and ensure its legacy remains strong. Thank you!

Support the White Coat Scholarship Campaign

LSU Health Shreveport is committed to easing the burden of debt for our students and expanding access to medical education, which is why we are excited to announce the launch of the White Coat Scholarship Campaign. This campaign will allow LSU Health Shreveport to award need-based scholarships to deserving and gifted students with diverse life experiences, including those from underserved or rural communities. Additionally, as our medical school class sizes continue to grow to address the physician shortage, so must the opportunities for students to attend the LSUHS School of Medicine to become the physicians of the future.

Support the DeSha Endowment for Medical Education

Every student at LSU Health Shreveport’s School of Medicine remembers Dr. David DeSha. Alumni Drs. Jim and Karen Small wanted to honor his legacy as a beloved faculty member who drives high-quality education at the medical school. Earnings from the endowment will be used in perpetuity to fund enhancements to curriculum, student-led initiatives and to improve the learning environment for students. This crowdfunded endowment accepts donations of a few dollars all the way up to thousands. It speaks volumes to the power of Dr. DeSha and our faculty’s impact upon the medical professionals of the future.

Leave a White Coat Note

As an alumnus, you can play a vital part in the White Coat Ceremony for our medical students. Members of the sophomore class will receive their white coats before faculty, family, and friends as they take an oath affirming their commitment to the highest standard of ethics in patient care. When they reach inside the pocket of their first white coats, your words of encouragement will be there on a White Coat Note, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of our medical students.

HOST – Help Our Students Travel

One way to reconnect and support LSU Health Shreveport is to volunteer as a host for our fourth-year medical students as they travel for residency interviews. On average a student will have twelve interviews across the country scheduled between October and January. Alumni volunteers can help offset the financial burden of such travel by providing students with free housing, meals, and transportation in the vicinity of their interview sites.
