MEDICAL Alumni

Medical Alumni of LSU Health Shreveport

The Medical Alumni Association’s mission is to strengthen and support the LSU Health Shreveport’s School of Medicine by promoting life-long relationships between alumni, current students, trainees and faculty.

We do so by cultivating relationships with our graduates, supporting current students on their journey to join our noble profession, and providing programs and opportunities for alumni to give back to and engage with their alma mater.

About Our Alumni

In this past year we…

Welcomed incoming first-year medical students and their families to LSU Health Shreveport. Raised funds for campus upgrades and School of Medicine initiatives to improve the learning environment at LSU Health Shreveport

Provided student activities, funded projects and encouraged mentorship opportunities to enrich student life and professional development. Kept alumni informed and engaged through our newsletters, social media, emails, and our website. Brought alumni back to campus and reconnected former classmates with alumni reunions and events.

And much, much more!

We invite you to be an active member of the Alumni Association as we help advance the educational experience for our next generation of alumni. We hope you will join us for your reunion or an upcoming event. Be sure to check out our social media sites and photo galleries of past events. Don’t forget to update your contact information so you can receive our newsletter and other communications.

Join the White Coat Society

The White Coat Society at LSU Health Shreveport connects alumni donors to current medical school students. Money raised purchases white coats, finances student-selected projects, and supports medical student research. Dollar for dollar, the White Coat Society is the best way to support medical students at LSU Health Shreveport, as 98% of your donation goes directly to support student life.

_______

Support the DeSha Endowment for Medical Education

Every student at LSU Health Shreveport’s School of Medicine remembers Dr. David DeSha. Alumni Drs. Jim and Karen Small wanted to honor his legacy as a beloved faculty member who drives high-quality education at the medical school. Earnings from the endowment will be used in perpetuity to fund enhancements to curriculum, student-led initiatives and to improve the learning environment for students. This crowdfunded endowment accepts donations of a few dollars all the way up to thousands. It speaks volumes to the power of Dr. DeSha and our faculty’s impact upon the medical professionals of the future.

_______

HOST – Help Our Students Travel

One way to reconnect and support LSU Health Shreveport is to volunteer as a host for our fourth-year medical students as they travel for residency interviews. On average a student will have twelve interviews across the country scheduled between October and January. Alumni volunteers can help offset the financial burden of such travel by providing students with free housing, meals, and transportation in the vicinity of their interview sites.
