You’re invited to the Joe McCulloch Lectureship and Speaker Series, celebrating Dr. McCulloch’s impactful tenure as Dean of the School of Allied Health Professions at LSU Health Shreveport. The event kicks off with an alumni mixer, offering you the perfect opportunity to reconnect and network before the lecture begins at 5:30 PM.
We are proud to recognize Theresa A. Jones, PhD, Professor of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin as our speaker!
About Dr. Jones: Dr. Theresa Jones’s laboratory investigates how neural structure and synaptic connectivity change in adult animals after brain damage and during skill learning. Her team’s work in rodent stroke models shows that the brain’s regenerative remodeling after injury is highly sensitive to behavioral influences, including both spontaneous compensatory actions and those shaped by rehabilitative training. These findings suggest that behavioral interventions are crucial for directing neural repair in ways that improve function, as unguided regeneration may lead to suboptimal or even harmful outcomes. The lab also studies plasticity related to motor skill learning in the motor cortex and cerebellum, as well as the coordination among glial, vascular, and neuronal changes. A central aim is to understand how behavior can be optimized as a therapeutic strategy to enhance recovery after brain injury.
