About The McDade House

The renovated hospitality house will provide comfortable lodging for Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport – Feist-Weiller Cancer Center patients undergoing cancer treatment.

In 1985, a family with a bold vision opened the original McDade House as one of the first hospitalityhouses in the nation. Today, our goal is to restore the home’s mission of hospitality through arenovation campaign.

Located just steps from Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport – St. Mary Medical Center, the McDade Houseis perfectly positioned to provide Feist-Weiller patients a restful place to stay while traveling away fromhome for treatment.

Our vision of the new McDade House includes seven bedrooms and four suites all with privatebathrooms to accommodate patients; a community room and kitchen; a learning center and teachingkitchen; and will bring the home into current safety and ADA compliance standards

Why Support the McDade House Renovation Campaign?

A cancer diagnosis is never easy. By supporting this effort, you’ll help remove a significant burden cancer patients face and allow them to focus on their treatment.

Current Challenges

1

Feist-Weiller serves tens of thousands in North Louisiana, East Texas, and South Arkansas, but this often means patients travel many miles from home for their treatment.

2

Feist-Weiller faculty and staff are engaged in research through numerous clinical trialseach year to enhance the specialized care Feist-Weiller provides to this community. Life-changing, cutting-edge treatments often require patients to stay close to the hospital for extended periods.

3

Patients frequently have to stay in the hospital for care that could be provided in a more restful outpatient setting, and sometimes even delay necessary cancer treatment due to housing obstacles.

The Solution

By restoring the McDade House, Feist-Weiller will be able to provide a low- or no-cost housing option for patients who must travel to Shreveport-Bossier from outside of the area, getting them out of the hospital and into a safe, home-like environment.

Donors play a major role in making this hospitality home possible for Feist-Weiller patients, faculty, and staff. Our campaign goal is to raise approximately $2.1 million to include the cost of renovation and three years of operating expenses for the McDade House.

Our Footprint

  • Our service area covers 50% of Louisiana and extends to neighboring counties in Arkansas and Texas
  • In FY22-23, our providers saw 13,574 unique patients
  • 48% of our patients travel more than 20 miles for their care
