On Monday, March 6, 2023, the LSU Health Sciences Foundation hosted the formal investiture ceremony for David Kim, DMD, MD, FACS as the holder of the Jack W. Gamble, DDS Endowed Chair in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

The Gamble Chair was funded by various colleagues, friends, students, and patients of Dr. Gamble. Its purpose is to support multi-disciplinary research and teaching excellence within the OMS Department. Dr. Gamble’s contributions to the OMS program in Shreveport and the School of Dentistry in New Orleans were outstanding and unequaled at the time in the areas of state dental and medical leadership, legislative activities, and teaching. His devotion to this OMS program molded the lives of over 40 surgical residents from 1967-1997. Under his leadership, the program became an internationally known center of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery excellence.

Endowments, like the Gamble Chair, provide foundational dollars in perpetuity and ensure LSU Health Shreveport remains at the forefront of teaching, healing, and discovering for generations to come.

About Dr. David Kim

Dr. David Kim completed an accelerated program in dental science at the University of Pittsburgh College of Arts and Sciences in Pittsburgh, Penn., and received his medical degree from the State University New York Health Science Center in Brooklyn. He served his internship at the health center in Brooklyn prior to serving a residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Division of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery/Department of Dentistry, Kings County Hospital/SUNY Health Science Center, Brooklyn, where he was chief resident. He completed a fellowship in maxillofacial oncologic and reconstructive surgery with the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore.

Today, Dr. Kim serves as Professor and Chair of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Division Chief Head & Neck Oncologic Surgery. He is also the Director of the Head & Neck Oncologic/Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship in the OMS Department. Dr. Kim has lived in Shreveport since 2004. He and his wife, Mary, are parents of three children. He enjoys playing golf.
