The Center for Medical Education

By 2023, we will expand our medical school class size to 200 to produce much-needed physicians. To accommodate our burgeoning classes, we must construct a larger medical education building. Gifts in support of this capital project will be matched with state dollars to create a new educational home for student doctors and other health care professionals, such as physician assistants and physical therapists.
The Center for Medical Education will address the health care shortage in Louisiana by expanding our medical school class size. Central to any thriving community is accessible, high-quality health care. Many in our state, however, lack this essential element. Our central calling is to meet this deficit head-on. It is why LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport was founded.
This 5-story, 187,000+ square foot building will be located on the south side of campus, connected with a walkway to the School of Medicine library. The Center for Medical Education is a $60 million capital project featuring classrooms for up to 250, training labs, small group study rooms, and a state-of-the-art clinical skills center, simulating a hospital ward.
“We chose to support the Center for Medical Education because this once in a generation project benefits students, faculty, and our community right here in North Louisiana,” shared LSU Health Sciences Foundation Chairwoman Katy Merriman. “We were proud to leave a legacy at LSU Health in a place that will touch so many lives.”
