This endowment was established in recognition of Dr. Davis’s dedicated support to LSU Health Shreveport and her unwavering pursuit of research and academic excellence.

Dr. Davis served as Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and Division Chief of Healthcare Disparities at LSU Health Shreveport. For more than 35 years, she investigated the impact of patient literacy on health with more than 150 publications related to health communications.

A pioneer in the field of health literacy, Dr. Davis developed the Rapid Estimate of Adult Literacy in Medicine (REALM), the gold standard for literacy testing in medical settings.
